Acropora For Your Reef Aquarium

There are close to 400 species of Acropora species. Most of the Acropora corals are found in Pacific reefs. As a matter of fact there are only 3 species of Atlantic acropora species. One of my favorite types of Acropora is the "staghorn coral". It's a branching form of acropora that fits many of the acropora species. "Tabletop Acropora", another favorite, are shaped like a table with a base, and then the "Plating Acropora's", also called "Plate Acropora" are some of the most elegant Acropora for your reef aquarium.

Experience over the last few decades has strongly indicated that captive bred also called aquacultured acropora corals are much more adaptable and hardy than wild caught specimens. So it is better to acquire captive bred Acropora when possible. You will not only get a more durable coral, but there are often many beautiful color morphs available.
