Clownfish are a striking addition to any reef aquarium. They quickly catch the eye and many marine enthusiasts entering the hobby because of an attraction to these colorful beauties. You will often see clownfish nestled in an anemone. While other fish avoid its stinging tentacles, it will cause you to wonder what relation does a clownfish and a sea anemone have. In the wild, Clown fish live in symbiotic relationships with certain anemones. It means they live together and both the Clown fish and the anemone benefiting from each others company. In captivity anemones are not necessary to keep a clown fish. Clownfish will readily adapt without them and frequently find a substitute host in a coral, rock structure, or other invertebrate. Captive Bred are already accustomed to life in a tank environment and therefore easily acclimate to any home aquarium. Captive Bred also have virtually no shipping stress. A short shipping time ensures low stress during transport. In contrast, most wild collected clownfish experience long transit times from place of origin to a wholesalers tank. Captive Bred clownfish are not subject to the disease and parasite possibilities often found in ocean fresh clownfish. All captive bred fish are also "People Friendly". Captive bred clownfish associate people with food, which means they come up to the glass to beg for food rather than hiding in the presence of people. Captive Bred clownfish also eat a better diet. Captive Bred are far less aggressive than ocean clownfish. For example, several captive raised false percula clownfish (Ocellaris) will peacefully live together in the same tank. Its wild ocean counterpart though can only be kept 1 in the tank, or you need to purchase a Wild Male / Female pair for them to get along and not beat each other up. Description: Premium Snowflakes are an especially striking form of A. ocellaris. Just like those super cooled droplets of water called snowflakes, no two of these unique fish look alike. They have an impressive amount of irregular white markings on the body. The edges of the white coloration will typically be jagged and angular. These elegant fish are carefully selected by experienced graders into Premium Grade Snowflake Clownfish and Grade A Snowflake Clownfish. Premiums are the picks of the litter and always in short supply. Experienced graders look for premium features such as very unusual stripes and/or markings on the face and head that have been recognized as very desirable patterns. They always consider the oddness and rarity of the patterns, making each fish a unique specimen. In the Grade A Snowflake Ocellaris Clownfish the body stripes will have irregular edges and all three body stripes are distinguishable. On both the Premium and on the Grade A Snowflake the black outlines around the white get darker and thicker when the fish matures. This starts happening at between 10 and 12 months of age. Since Premium and Grade A Snowflakes are sold between 7 and 8 months of age expect the amount of black and the thickness of the black lines to increase on both the Premium and on the Grade A Snowflake Clownfish. Also, on both Premium and Grade A Snowflake Clownfish often times when they mature the edges of their white markings will develop a baby blue hue.
