The Doughnut Coral is a large polyp stony (LPS) coral that is also commonly referred to as Cat's Eye, Tooth, Button, or Meat Coral. The Doughnut Coral resembles an artichoke in appearance, it is one of the largest single-polyped corals found in the wild. It's coloration can vary from different forms of bright vibrant pastels to more drab variations. While it is not an aggressive coral, it should be provided with adequate spacing between itself and other corals because it can expand to twice its size.

Difficulty A hardy and easy to care for coral making it a good beginner coral.

Aggressiveness Not an aggressive coral, they still must be provided with a good amount of space between itself and any other corals because they expand to over twice their size during the day.

Water-flow It requires slow to medium at most water flow.

Lighting They require low to moderate lighting only. Its best to start with lower lighting and acclimate slowly to any stronger lighting over a period of time. T5's, Metal Halides, or LED's can all grow Doughnut corals when the proper PAR levels are provided. We recommend a 14-20K color spectrum for best coloration.

Tank Recommendations For placement keep in mind that it will do best on the bottom of the reef aquarium, preferably lying on a fine sandy substrate. Scoly corals often inflate themselves with water and expand to over twice their size so enough room must be left for both the expansion and for its sweeper tentacles which can extend beyond its body.

Diet and Feeding Feed meaty foods such as liquid micro-plankton, frozen mysis shrimp or brine shrimp.
