Gobies for Sale

The saltwater aquarium goby is quite hardy and easy to care for, and many are attractive and/or have very interesting behaviors. Gobies stay small in size, most never reaching 4 inches in length, but the family Gobiidae is the largest family of marine fish in the world, with over 2,000 known species. Most are great additions to smaller aquariums, but their diminutive size may make them less appealing to some hobbyists, as they can easily be "lost" in larger aquariums. All gobies live on or very near the bottom. So, you won't likely see one swimming around in the upper parts of your aquarium too often, unless their after some sort of food. The gobies small size can also mean an expensive snack if they are placed in an aquarium with larger predatory fish.

Description: This is a perfect fish for smaller aquariums. Members of this genus are thought to have a noxious body slime that deters most predatory fishes from feeding on them. These are very small, typically around 1"

Tank Recommendations: House single Gobies in a 10 gallon or larger aquarium. To best recreate the gobies natural habitat place dead or live branching coral in the tank for it to perch on. It will rarely demonstrate aggression towards other fish therefore best to house with other docile species.

Food and diet: They continually feed off the bottom while sifting through the sand. They also need to be fed a balanced diet of frozen foods including live and frozen brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, black worms, and other prepared foods for carnivores. We suggest feeding twice a day.

ORA Captive Bred
Blue Neon Goby
Elactinus oceanops

Picture of Captive Bred Blue Neon Goby

Description: ORA Blue Neon gobies are one of the most easily recognized and popular saltwater aquarium fish. A very hardy fish and because of its small size, it makes a great addition to smaller reef aquariums. It is well documented that this fish will act as a cleaner species that picks parasites and other debris from the mouth, gills and skin of larger fish. They are small, never larger than 2 inches full grown. Black with two neon blue stripes along the back and a white belly. Neon gobies are not difficult to keep in aquariums, and are especially well suited to reef tanks. They will eat small bits of frozen and dry aquarium foods although in nature they are almost exclusively parasite pickers. Normally, they are not bothered by larger fish because they are recognized as cleaners. Spawning of this species is well documented, and pairing and spawning are often observed in aquaria. This species can lay 500-800 eggs every 10 days, hatching in about 8-9 days. They spend about 25-28 days as larva until metamorphosis.

Tank Recommendations: House single Neon Gobies in a 10 gallon or many can be kept together in larger aquariums.

Rainfordi Goby
Amblygobius rainfordi

Description: The Rainfordi Goby, Amblygobius rainfordi, is excellent for keeping your tank clean of hair algae. Also known as the Court Jester Goby due to its colorful, almost clownlike appearance, this animated, hardy, colorful fish grows to a maximum length of less than 3 inches. Its size makes it perfect for large and for small aquariums. Rainfordi Gobies do great indivually, but given adequate space and a simultaneous introduction, a grouping makes a beautiful display with their colorful body and orange striping running horizontally along the entire length of the body. This fish typically will not bother any fish, corals, or invertebrates. Care should be taken, however, to ensure that other larger species (or others of a similar species who have established territories) do not pick on the Rainfordi. In the reef tank, it will appreciate the hiding places afforded by Live Rock and corals.

Tank Recommendations: House single Neon Gobies in a 10 gallon or many can be kept together in larger aquariums. It will rarely demonstrate aggression towards other fish therefore best to house with other docile species

Food and diet: Their diet should consist of filamentous algae, small crustaceans, such as live and frozen brine shrimp, and mysis shrimp. We suggest feeding twice a day.

Twin Spot Signal Goby
Signigobius biocellatus

Picture of Twin Spot Signal Goby ><BR>
 <FONT COLOR=

Description: The Twin Spot Goby is also referred to as the Two spot Goby, Signal Goby, or Crabeye Goby. The Twin Spot Signal Goby is an excellent sand-sifter for small aquariums with a fine substrate. They stay much smaller than other sand-sifting gobies and make for an amusing display as they “hover” across the bottom of the tank on their dark pectoral and pelvic fins. A great fish from the western Pacific. Not aggressive towards other gobies and may even share a burrow with another species. To increase your success with the Twin spot Goby fish it is important to keep it in a tank with live sand on the bottom. Do not keep the Twin spot Goby with any remotely aggressive fishes, including food competitors.

Tank Recommendations: The ideal aquarium should have plenty of room at the bottom and a sandbed of at least two inches in depth. When startled or threatened, they have been known to jump out of uncovered aquariums. Always keep the tank covered and provide plenty of hiding places to retreat to.

Food and diet: They continually feed off the bottom while sifting through the sand. They also need to be fed a balanced diet of frozen foods including live and frozen brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, black worms, and other prepared foods for carnivores. We suggest feeding twice a day.

Engineer Goby
Pholidichthys leucotaenia

Description: Also called the Convict Goby, this fish is an absolute delight. It adapts well to captive conditions, and is VERY social. This is one fish that you may purchase three, five or as many as you would like. Most aquarists have only seen this fish when it’s small, when it greatly resembles the common eel catfish. Almost always in good health, and amongst the last to perish from disease, poor environment or catastrophe, Engineer's are never “late to the dinner table”… and can grow to more than eight inches in length…

Tank Recommendations: Keep in a 55 gallon or larger aquarium with a sand covered bottom. Keep with peaceful tank mates and plenty of hiding places. Small groups or pairs do better, but need to be introduced simultaneously to the aquarium.

Food and diet: Engineer Gobies are relatively easy fish to feed. They relish any type of live foods and will readily accept frozen foods that float by their cave system. They have a very good appetite and should be fed at least twice a day. They will supplement their feedings by hunting for small crustaceans such as amphipods in the substrate and on the rocks.
