Montipora coral are one of the all around favorites of the aquarium industry. The popular species of coral are commonly called "Montie's" by those that love them. They are considered the easiest small polyp stony (SPS) corals to grow and display. Considered one of the best corals for beginners, montipora are asily aquacultured, large colonies are grown from small fragments taken from existing reef aquariums. They grow in many shapes and colors including shades of orange, red, neon green, even purple Montipora is amazing to see. From plating structures to tabling structures, tree-like structures to encrusting, there are many shapes Montipora can take on. Interesting to note, the same species in multiple reef aquariums can grow into a different shapes grown in another aquarium. Montipora corals are usually placed half way up the reef tank, with a medium level of lighting. The exception to the rule is when you are working with either a plating or encrusting Montipora, then place closer to the bottom of the reef to keep it from getting to much light and being burned. All Montipora love strong water flow levels, they must have plenty of water circulation. They are not an aggressive species, they should not be kept close to aggressive corals. Give more room then nescessary so growth doesn't put the coral to close to an aggressive coral. For feeding they require a fine particulate food such as Zooplankton. As their food floats around your reef tank they will pick up food as it passes by. We have two full pages of inventory of Montipora corals for sale below.
