The Australian Superman Scolymia Coral, plays homage to the super hero with alternating red and blue radial bands on every variation of the Scolymia coral. Scolymia are some of the most beautiful corals on Earth. Where else do you see the colors and patterns of a scoly? The best specimens dazzle like gems of the sea. Reef keepers are rightfully attracted to the beauty of the Scolymia australis; There are few (if any) corals that can challenge a Scoly's color palette and patterns. Aquarist's have demonstrated ongoing willingness to pay beau coup dollars for the top specimens.

Difficulty A hardy and easy to care for coral making it a good beginner coral.

Aggressiveness Not an aggressive coral, they still must be provided with a good amount of space between itself and any other corals because they expand to over twice their size during the day.

Water-flow It requires slow to medium at most water flow.

Lighting It requires moderate lighting (PAR 100-150). T5's, Metal Halides, or LED's can all grow Scolymia corals when the proper PAR levels are provided. We recommend a 14-20K color spectrum for best coloration.

Tank Recommendations For placement keep in mind that it will do best on the bottom of the reef aquarium, preferably lying on a fine sandy substrate. Scoly corals often inflate themselves with water and expand to over twice their size so enough room must be left for both the expansion and for its sweeper tentacles which can extend beyond its body.

Diet and Feeding Feed meaty foods such as liquid micro-plankton, frozen mysis shrimp or brine shrimp.
